Time flies having flies
During an interdisciplinary minor at KASK Conservatory in Ghent, I explored how designers can contribute to the More-Than-Human community. I challenged myself to change my negative perception of flies — creatures we often find repulsive and useless. Starting with scientific facts, I discovered their incredible agility and decision-making skills, qualities humans can learn from. To deepen my connection, I observed two houseflies, Maurice and Marcel, over three weeks. I documented their behavior in a mobile observation box I carried everywhere. The experience changed my view: I began to appreciate their presence and purpose. Through this project, I aimed to shift others' perceptions too. The result was a video installation that mirrors how flies see the world: chaotic for us, but perfectly clear to them. Time flies exploring flies, to be continued...
